FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

An Important Announcement from BGR:

Thank you for your faithful support meeting needs around the world through BGR. After December 31, BGR will no longer accept donations.

We recommend giving to Send Relief, the new compassion ministry for Southern Baptists at home and around the world.

Baptist Global Response (BGR) is a global Southern Baptist relief and development organization. It was incorporated in 2006 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
BGR helps you meet the needs of people around the world. Together, we strive to demonstrate the love of God so people have the opportunity to experience the full and meaningful lives He created them to enjoy. We work with proven and trusted partners overseas to discover needs, find sustainable resources to address them, and apply effective and efficient solutions. All of this is done in a way that involves local people, thus building individual and community dignity.
People, families, and communities living and sharing a full, meaningful life with hope, peace, and dignity.
BGR has a nine-member board of directors who come from all walks of Southern Baptist life. The board works with the CEO to lead the organization. The current CEO is Jeff Palmer.
With so many people in desperate need around the world, BGR pursues partnership rather than competition with other organizations. Our primary focus is helping people in need through people who care. This means working together with partners who, like BGR, care desperately for a hurting world. You can help make a difference by partnering with us through praying, giving, and volunteering to demonstrate the love of God for people in need. For more information, visit our partner page.

BGR is not an official entity of the Southern Baptist Convention, but it does seek to work with all Southern Baptists to better respond to acute and chronic needs and to coordinate worldwide relief and development efforts.

BGR heartily promotes and endorses the Southern Baptist Convention Cooperative Program. The partnership BGR has with Southern Baptists in meeting human needs around the world is fundamentally undergirded by those that give through their local church to the Southern Baptist Cooperative Program and the Southern Baptist Global Hunger Relief funds.

BGR partners with the IMB and others to help implement a more effective and efficient international relief and development efforts.

Global Hunger Relief (GHR) is an initiative of Southern Baptists that was formerly known as the World Hunger Fund. GHR-funded projects combat hunger in North America and around the world in a wide variety of ways, from participating in disaster relief to addressing chronic hunger, from eliminating urban food deserts to helping women rescued from sex trafficking – and much more.

BGR partners with GHR to promote the cause of hunger awareness and implement hunger projects together with GHR’s other national partners. In addition, BGR is GHR’s trusted partner for receiving online-donations. 100% of donations given to GHR through BGR will go to hunger projects and are distributed according to the formula established by the Southern Baptist Convention: 20% to domestic hunger needs and 80% to international hunger projects.

At BGR, we strive to treat people in need with respect through our photography and storytelling. We publish stories about the disenfranchised, impoverished, orphaned, and the widowed. We often focus on their situation and needs but also tell the story of how their lives are being positively impacted by BGR and our implementing partners. In all our media, we do our best to preserve people’s dignity. We post images and written material that describes circumstances without turning BGR beneficiaries into objects of pity. These photos and stories come from trusted partners stationed around the world who know and love the people benefiting from your donations. They share the stories with us, and we, in turn, share them with you. Most of the names in our posts and publications have been changed to preserve the privacy and the safety of the people featured in them. For the same reasons, the photos that accompany the stories are often representative and might not depict the actual story subjects. We also preserve the details of the stories but leave out specific information that could put people and projects in danger.

Great question. While we don’t track each specific donated item, we can tell you that your donation did purchase an animal to help a family in need and demonstrate the love of Christ to them. We have a number of projects worldwide that you potentially helped support. Each of these animals makes a difference to the beneficiaries. And each of these projects is run by a trusted BGR partner to ensure effective and efficient use of your generous donation.

Thank you for your generous gift of a water well through the BGR gift catalog. While we don’t track each specific donation, we want you to know that your donation did help purchase a clean water system for a community in need. Each year we help hundreds of communities and thousands of families gain access to clean, safe, good drinking water. Your thoughtful gift provides for some of these.
