Pray for Disaster Response
after Cyclone Idai
Cyclone Idai made landfall on March 14, directly hitting the city of Beira, Mozambique. This devastating cyclone dumped massive amounts of rain in Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique, resulting in 447 confirmed deaths and over 110,000 people now displaced from their homes. The storm left the city badly damaged by extremely heavy winds and rains. Flooding is a major problem not only in the city of Beira, but in rural areas throughout Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe.
BGR partners were able to respond quickly to the devastation and have been working with Baptist churches and government officials in these areas to assess the damage and bring in needed supplies. This is a difficult situation that needs prayer for both the relief efforts and the people affected by this storm. Please pray for those impacted by Cyclone Idai.
- Pray for good sanitation in the camps and centers where displaced people are sheltered. Poor conditions put people at high risk for cholera and other diseases.
- Pray those who are displaced will have access to food, clean water, and medical attention, especially the most vulnerable—the young and elderly.
- Pray that BGR partners working on the ground in the relief efforts can find and purchase materials that will help with hygiene and shelter needs.
- Pray believers and churches who have also been affected by the cyclone will have opportunities to share hope and encouragement with their neighbors.
