Hurricane Dorian Prayer Requests: September 14, 2019

As rescuers continue the arduous task of searching for survivors amidst the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas, the gravity of the disaster grows more evident by the hour. Over 2,500 people are still reported as missing, more than 70,000 have lost everything, and the death toll, currently at 50, is expected to climb. The scale of devastation is difficult to quantify and for those who are coming to grips with the destruction of their homes and livelihoods, the road to recovery will be long and painful.

Already, stories of heartbreak are surfacing. Many Bahamians are just finding out that their family members have died. One pastor shared a story of his cousin, whose wedding he had performed years ago. The cousin went to help rescue others. When he returned, his wife had died. The pastor says, “These deaths affect all of us. Our lives are intertwined.”
While grief has a firm grip on the victims, hope refuses to let them go. BGR partners are on the ground working with church and community leaders to find those in the greatest need. Supplies are being prepared for shipment in the coming days. Please pray for the relief efforts in the Bahamas and for the people who are working to bring help to them.

  • Pray for the restoration of families that have been torn apart and who are still looking for missing loved ones.
  • Pray for all of the islanders because their lives are intertwined and they are all affected by each death.
  • Pray for the rescuers that are still recovering bodies to have stamina, endurance, and mental health.
  • Pray that the assessment teams on the ground will be led by God to those in greatest need.
