BGR assessment personnel are working from Santa Domingo and are receiving reports from some affected islands. As they assess needs, they will give priority to items that preserve life, focusing first on food, water, and shelter sources. Clean, potable water sources are critical right now to prevent dehydration and intestinal issues that could cause outbreaks of diseases such as cholera. Personnel will also find temporary lodging alternatives to provide survivors with comfort and shelter from the elements until more permanent housing is in place.

Unfortunately, the disrupted economy and supply chain might not be restored for several weeks. In the interim, BGR and other disaster response organizations will attempt to meet the most needs possible in the most efficient way possible.
