A BGR assessment team is meeting with the Bahama Baptist Convention on Saturday afternoon to discuss the needs the islanders affected by Hurricane Dorian.  Current reports are that there is severe widespread damage across Grand Bahama and Abaco, with Abaco being the worst hit.  It is estimated that approximately 60,000 people have been affected and are in need of water and food.  BGR is coordinating with organizations in the USA to send supplies to the affected areas and also with national partners on the islands to address the need in the best way possible.  According to the World Health Organization, Over 1,200 people are reported in various shelters in Great Abaco and Grand Bahama and an additional 800 are sheltering at Marsh Harbour Clinic.”  BGR has been invited to participate in a joint assessment and has Disaster Assessment and Response Teams (DART) in the works.  DART teams will assess the real needs and put together a plan to meet both immediate and long-term needs.
