Update: BGR Responding to Evacuees’ Needs

Disaster Response | Print

BGR emergency relief teams have now been on the ground for several days responding to Hurricane DorianOn the main island of Grand Bahama, life is beginning to return to normal. Businesses are open and running, and some semblance of routine has been returned to the major cities. The Abaco Islands, however, have been completely destroyed.

Abaco residents are being evacuated to surrounding islands with more infrastructure in place.

BGR is working continuously with our Bahamian partners to respond to the needs of those evacuees who have been displaced and left with nothing but the clothes on their backs. As the communities who were most impacted continue to evacuate, loss of life is expected to increase. Harsh conditions, mounting violence, and unattended wounds are contributing to the ongoing death toll.

We are starting to get stories of evacuees’ situations directly from the field, and we are moving forward with mass distributions of food, blankets, and hygiene kits. Our two biggest needs at this time continue to be prayer and giving to help families devastated by this disaster.
