A hydroelectric dam in the southern part of Laos collapsed on July 23, 2018 in the evening. The Laos government reported that the dam in Attapeu province collapsed as a result of heavy seasonal rainfalls. As a result, there is widespread flooding, destroyed crops, and a need for food, water, and temporary shelter. BGR has two teams on the ground assessing the needs and will respond with local volunteers and resources to this catastrophe. Current reports have the homeless toll at over 6,000. The government issued a call for aid in the form of clothing, food, drinking water, and other items. The dam was an economic initiative meant to sell electricity to surrounding countries. The death toll has not been estimated at this time.

Please pray for those who have been affected by this tragedy. If you would like to help, you can give to BGR’s Disaster Response fund¬†below.
