Cyclone Fani: Update and Praise
Disaster Response | Print
As Cyclone Fani barrelled towards the coasts of India and Bangladesh with potentially lethal force, the whole world seemed to hold its breath while bracing for the worst. While many people like you around the world lifted prayers of concern for the 100 million people in the path of the storm, the governments of India and Bangladesh went to work.
Over 1.1 million people in India and 1.6 million people in Bangladesh were evacuated. At the same time, emergency preparedness teams were trained in first-aid and disaster and rescue management. Over 50,000 volunteers and staff through various relief agencies passed on critical information to over 20 million people in harm’s way. Today, clean-up efforts are under-way. Hundreds of homes have been damaged, roads and buildings have been destroyed, and lines of communication have also been wiped out. However, the storm that could have produced a devastating loss of life has resulted in only 15 deaths, according to ReliefWeb.

Please pray for the families and friends of those who have been lost. Pray for peace, calm, and perseverance for those who have lost their homes, businesses, and belongings. And join us in lifting thanks for the millions of lives that were spared and for the tireless efforts of so many who acted quickly and effectively to save so many.
