BGR disaster relief teams are making a difference for Filipinos trying to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan.
Despite this social stigma, Ali helped take care of his parents and seven siblings while his father suffered from high blood pressure and other ailments. Around the age of 25, he was still trying to finish a high school degree while also apprenticing as a shopkeeper. He would spend half his days at school and the other half at a shop, learning the trade.
Karimi had very yellow teeth, possibly caused by infection in her mouth. She lived in a part of Central Asia where women were rarely educated.
Paula Ignacion used the pension she earned teaching school for 23 years to build a little concrete house on the beach in Agojo, Philippines. And last November, Typhoon Haiyan destroyed it.
