A little girl sat in a corner, opened a book and forgot about her cancer for a while. Thank you for helping put that book in her hands!

Every day, your gifts purchase books and toys that bring comfort in child care centers like the one Liu and her mother, Peng, stayed in. Before that, volunteers came to a hospital cancer ward to find a child angry and confused by her disease. Her mother was lost in despair, balancing the weight of her child’s cancer and her husband’s emphysema. Invitations to the children’s center were met with hostility.

The simple gift of a piece of cake finally softened Peng and Liu to the center. Thanks to you, they had a safe place to stay and even received help applying for financial aid.

Now, after a successful surgery, Liu is aiming for remission and playing like a kid again. Peng has traded her blank stares and anger for hugs and friendship.

Give as a family to ease the strain on other families like Liu and Peng!
